American Family Insurance (Am Fam) Added App Features

*This was a personal project that was produced purely to showcase my skill set and is in no way affiliated with American Family Insurance.

Project Overview

The average user of the AmFam app is 25-37 years old. The use of their smartphones is for both entertainment and work-related needs. With the mindset that their smartphones should make their lives easier by assisting them with tasks, they are frustrated with the inability to add a driver through their app.

Prioritizing the 3-click rule, I worked through my design process and created an experience that allowed users to easily add a driver to their existing policies. Additionally, I created a brand style guide that updated the current app styles* to include gradients and additional colors in an effort to highlight specific callouts/sections.

*Current app styles were based upon my assessment while using the app and may not necessarily be the actual AmFam app styles.

Research & Analysis

A thorough research phase was conducted to better understand the target audience, brand goals, and competitive landscape. These findings were then analyzed and design versions were created.

Unfortunately, I didn't have access to every screen from competitors. However, I was able to find various screenshots online of AmFam's main competitors. These screenshots in addition to user reviews allowed me to get a rough overview of the functionality and design layout that each app used.

USER REVIEWS

In order to find the main pain points that AmFam app users were having, I went out in search of reviews. Google Play and the App Store provided most of the useful insights I was in search of. 

USER PERSONA

After I conducted most of my research, I was able to take the information and collected data and create a user persona.  The user persona allowed me to uncomplicate the expectation(s), hinted at a few paths to resolution, and ultimately allowed me to create a better user experience.

Ideation & Wireframing

The design ideation and research yielded a number of possible design directions. Creating possible user journies/wireframes sanctioned a way for me to visualize the best process for the user to go through in order to accomplish the goal. Wireframing is a step that I like to use to aid in discussing ideas with team members and stakeholders.

Deliverable/Prototype

The final stage in this project included analyzing my research and design ideations and putting them into a high fidelity prototype. Using Adobe XD, I was able to create the working prototype that you see in the video below.
